What trainwell actually costs: $149 a month is a $447 charge

trainwell is $149 a month billed every three months, so the charge is $447 and a year is about $1,788. The trial, the Peloton price, the history, what you get.

trainwell costs $149 a month, billed in three-month increments. That's the price on its site, and the words in brackets matter: the $149 is billed as a $447 charge every three months, which is about $1,788 a year. There's a 14-day free trial before the first charge, and no published money-back guarantee after it.

I run Bespoke Fit, a competitor at twice the monthly price, so weigh that. Every number below is from trainwell's own pages on September 3, 2026, or from a source I link.

The price as trainwell states it

The homepage and FAQ say: "$149 USD/month (billed in 3-month increments)" plus applicable taxes, which trainwell describes as over 25% savings.1 The saving is against a monthly rate the site doesn't show. The FAQ says plans can be monthly, quarterly or annual, and that they renew automatically each cycle, but only the quarterly figure is priced anywhere public.1

The site never prints the quarterly figure itself, so here it is:

PlanWhat you're chargedPer year
trainwell, quarterly plan$447 every three monthsAbout $1,788
Peloton Personal Trainer, powered by trainwell$99.99 a month, plus a Peloton membershipAbout $1,200, plus the membership

The Peloton version is the same company's coaching, sold to Peloton All-Access and App+ members in the US on iOS, billed monthly by trainwell after a 14-day trial that begins after your onboarding call.2 If you already pay for Peloton, it's $49 a month cheaper than going to trainwell directly, on a monthly cycle, for coaching Peloton describes as asynchronous, with calls for onboarding and occasional check-ins.

What the price has done

The price has only moved up. In October 2023 TechCrunch reported the service at $99 a month.3 By April 2026 the CEO described the range as "between a hundred and $150 a month", depending on the plan and, in his words, on which generation of customer you are.4 Today the site says $149 billed quarterly, and a trainwell landing page that's still live says $179 a month.5 Independent write-ups from spring 2025 describe seeing different prices at checkout. I cover that in why your trainwell quote isn't the price on their site.

If you're on an older price, protect it: know your renewal date, and don't cancel and rejoin expecting the same rate.

What $447 a quarter buys

It's a real service: you get a dedicated trainer who is a full-time employee, not a contractor, at a company that says it hires about 3% of applicants.6 Your trainer writes your plan into the app, which guides each workout one set at a time in your trainer's voice. You message as much as you like and can schedule video calls. Motion tracking is optional with an Apple Watch or a Wear OS watch. There's a free tier too: Trainwell Teams gives anyone a member invites a trainer-built plan at no cost, with no coach attached.7

What it doesn't buy is a trainer on the call while you work out. trainwell's own blog says coaching is app-based and that live video workout sessions are scheduled separately,8 and the CEO has said the company doesn't do detailed meal plans or calorie counting either.9 You get a plan, someone to answer to, and feedback after the fact. For a lot of people that's the right thing to pay for. Does trainwell have live sessions goes through what the calls include.

Cost per coached session

trainwell doesn't sell coached sessions, so its cost per session is undefined: the app guides the workout, and the trainer's time is spread across messages and check-ins. The fair way to compare it with services that do put a coach on the call is what a month of training costs at a realistic frequency.

ServiceWhat you payThree sessions a week, per month
trainwell$447 a quarter$149, no coached sessions included
Echelon Coach, live per session$36 to $40 per 30 minutes, $72 to $80 per hourAbout $470 to $1,040
In-person trainer, US average$50 to $90 a sessionAbout $650 to $1,170
Bespoke Fit, live unlimited$49 first month, then $299/mo founding rate$299, about $23 per session

The in-person range is Bark's marketplace data from January 2026, with New York at $100 to $135 a session.10 Echelon's prices are from its plans page. Ours are on the pricing page, and at four sessions a week the founding rate works out to $18.69 per coached session.

Two notes on that table. trainwell is the cheapest human in the loop by a wide margin, and if you train well on your own, its row is the right one. Ours is the only flat price, which pays off only if you use it.

So is it worth it

At $149 a month, trainwell is a fair price for a dedicated trainer who writes your plan and keeps you honest by message. Its trainers are employees, its hiring bar is strict, and the company has served more than 52,000 clients by its own count.1 The price is competitive with Future at $199 and well under Caliber's reported tiers. The two are compared head to head in trainwell vs Future.

It stops being worth it in two cases. If you'd rather pay monthly with a refund window, Future refunds within 30 days and we refund your $49 first month within 30 days, no questions asked, while trainwell's terms say no refund for the term you've paid.11 And if the thing you're missing is someone watching you train, no trainwell plan includes it. That's the gap we built for: a real coach on live video for every session, capped at 12 members per coach, $49 your first month and then $299/mo locked for life for one of 25 founding spots. Whichever way you go, write your renewal date down on day one.

Common questions

How much is trainwell per month? $149 a month on the plan trainwell's site advertises, billed in three-month increments. That's a $447 charge every quarter and about $1,788 a year. The FAQ mentions monthly and annual options too, but only the quarterly price is shown, so ask for the others in writing before you sign up.

Is there a trainwell free trial? Yes, 14 days. It includes a 40-minute call with your trainer, a custom plan in the app, and messaging. Cancel inside the 14 days and you pay nothing. The first charge after the trial is the full first term, which on the quarterly plan is $447.

How much is trainwell through Peloton? $99.99 a month, billed monthly by trainwell on top of your Peloton All-Access or App+ membership, after a 14-day free trial that starts once you've done the onboarding call. It's a US-only, iOS-only beta with a waitlist. Peloton's page says the coaching is asynchronous, with calls for onboarding and occasional check-ins.

Is trainwell worth the price? For a dedicated, full-time trainer who writes your plan and checks in by message, $149 a month is fair, and it's half what Bespoke Fit charges. It's the wrong buy if you want someone watching you train, because that isn't what the price includes, at any tier.
