LIVE VIDEO TRAINING
Live 1‑on‑1 video personal training
A real coach joins you on a video call for every workout, watches every rep as it happens, and corrects your form while the bar is still in your hands. Most people call this a virtual personal trainer, or an online personal trainer. This page explains the model, the price, and who it's actually for.
The short answer
Live 1-on-1 video personal training means your coach is on camera with you during the workout itself, not reviewing a clip you filmed later. A virtual personal trainer, or online personal trainer, is the same idea in different words, and live 1-on-1 video is the version where the coach is actually watching while you train. You book a session, your coach is already on the call, and they coach you through every set in real time. It's the closest online training gets to an in-person trainer, from your own home, a hotel room, or wherever you train.
What a personal trainer over video call actually does
You prop your phone or laptop where the camera can see you, and your coach takes it from there. They demo the movement, watch your reps in HD, and cue corrections the moment your form slips, not the next day in a message.
Because the coach sees the whole session, your program adjusts in real time. Moving well today, the load goes up today. Flagging after a rough week of sleep, the session bends around it. The plan is written from what your coach sees, not from a template.
Sessions run over live HD video built into the Bespoke Fit app, on iOS, Android, or any browser. No separate video account. The full walkthrough from signup to first session is on the how it works page.
Step by step detail, from signup to your first session, is on how it works.
Live video coaching vs async coaching
Async coaching
The note arrives after the workout is already over.
Live 1-on-1 video
The cue lands while the weight is still in your hands.
| Async coaching | Live 1-on-1 video | |
|---|---|---|
| Coach during your workout | Not present, you train alone | On the call, watching every rep |
| Form correction | Hours or a day later, from a clip you film | In the moment, mid-set |
| Accountability | Check-in messages and streaks | A booked appointment, coach already waiting |
| Program adjustments | Between sessions, from your logs | Live, from what the coach sees |
| Typical price (Sep 2026) | $90 to $600 per month | $25 to $80 per session, or flat unlimited |
The full breakdown of the two models is in live vs async online coaching, and the evidence behind live supervision is in does online personal training actually work.
Your coach, live on your screen.

- Form corrections in real time
- Phone or laptop, at home or at the gym
Who live video training fits
Choose live video coaching if
- You've quit programs before because nobody noticed when you stopped showing up.
- You're unsure about your squat, hinge, or press form and want it fixed while you move, not reviewed later.
- You want a coach's full attention without commuting to a gym.
- You're returning from a break or an injury and want someone watching intensity closely.
A different model fits better if
- You train consistently on your own, an app or async plan is cheaper and honestly enough.
- You want heavy barbell work with a physical spotter, that stays an in-person job.
- You mainly want a program to follow, not a person present, premium async programming fits better.
We'd rather you pick the model that fits than pick live coaching for the wrong reasons.

Common questions
What is live 1-on-1 video personal training?
It's personal training where your coach is on a live video call with you for the entire workout, watching your form and coaching you rep by rep in real time. It's different from async coaching, where a coach writes your plan and reviews clips after you've trained alone.
Is a virtual personal trainer the same as an online personal trainer?
Yes, people use both phrases for the same thing, and both cover three different products. There's live video, where a coach is on the call while you work out; async coaching, where a real human writes your program and messages you through an app while you train alone; and AI-only apps, where nothing on the other end is a person. This page is about the first kind, live 1-on-1 video, the only one where a coach sees you train.
Do virtual personal trainers watch you work out?
Most don't. The bigger services are async: a real coach writes your plan, then reviews your logs or a clip you filmed after the fact, but nobody is there while you train. Live video services are the exception. On those the coach is on the call for the whole session, watching every rep and cueing corrections as they happen.
How is it different from Future, trainwell, or Caliber?
Those are async services: real human coaches, but they're not present while you train. Feedback comes later through the app. In live video training the coach sees the session as it happens and corrects it as it happens. Our comparison pages cover the big services one by one.
Can a coach really correct my form over video?
Yes, and the evidence backs the model: a 2025 meta-analysis of 28 videoconference training studies found live video exercise programs as effective as in-person training in the high-quality studies. What a video coach can't do is physically spot a maximal barbell lift, and we're honest about that limit.
What do I need at home for it to work?
A phone, tablet, or laptop with a camera, a stable connection, and whatever equipment you already have, from nothing at all to a full gym. Your coach programs around what you own. We help you set up your camera angle in your first session.
How much does a live online personal trainer cost?
Most live 1-on-1 video services charge $25 to $80 per session. Bespoke Fit charges a flat $299 a month for unlimited live sessions at the founding member rate, locked for life, with the first month at $49 and a 30-day money-back guarantee.
Service price ranges checked July 2026, async coaching range re-verified September 2026, sources and per-service numbers in the cost guide and on the comparison pages.
