Peloton Personal Trainer review: what the calls actually are
Peloton Personal Trainer is trainwell's coaching inside Peloton, $99.99 a month on top of your membership, and Peloton says the workouts are asynchronous.

Peloton Personal Trainer is trainwell's coaching sold inside Peloton. You pay $99.99 a month to trainwell on top of your Peloton membership, you get a dedicated trainer who builds you a weekly plan out of Peloton classes and strength workouts, and you talk to them by message and on video calls. Peloton's own FAQ answers the main question: workouts are completed asynchronously on your schedule, and the live video calls are "used for onboarding and occasional check-ins, not for live workout sessions."1
The rest of this is the detail, all of it from Peloton's page, trainwell's announcement, and ten interviews trainwell's CEO has given, because the product is a waitlist beta and I haven't paid for it. I run Bespoke Fit, a competitor that sells live coaching, so weigh that.
What it is
Peloton announced the partnership in February 2026, and trainwell's CEO has called it the company's first deep integration with another brand.2 Peloton does the marketing and, in his words, brings "thousands of clients".3 trainwell built a version of its product that plugs into Peloton's class library, so a trainer can prescribe specific classes and get the workout data back.3
The mechanics, from Peloton's page:1
- You take a short onboarding survey. trainwell suggests up to three trainer matches, and you pick one or ask for a different match.
- You schedule an intro video call to go through your fitness history, goals and weekly schedule.
- Your trainer builds a weekly plan mixing Peloton classes with targeted strength workouts, and adjusts it as you go.
- You message your trainer in the app, and can book further video calls.
The 14-day free trial starts after the intro call. After that trainwell bills $99.99 a month on the same date each month. You cancel by emailing support@trainwell.net, and cancelling the add-on leaves your Peloton membership untouched.1 It's a limited-access beta, invite by waitlist, for All-Access and App+ members in the US on iOS.
What "personal trainer" means here
Peloton's page asks "Are workouts live or on Zoom?" and answers no: the workouts are asynchronous, the calls are for onboarding and check-ins.1 That matches how trainwell describes its own service. Its blog says coaching is app-based and that live video workout sessions are scheduled separately,4 and its CEO describes the standard experience as one 45-to-60-minute onboarding call followed by unlimited chats and calls.5
So the trainer is real, full-time and employed by trainwell, and the plan is written for you. They don't watch you train, though. On a Peloton ride that barely matters, because the instructor on screen sets the pace. On the strength work, which is the part the plan adds, it matters more, because nobody sees the set where your back rounds on rep eight.
Who it's a good deal for
If you already pay for Peloton, this is the cheapest published route to trainwell's coaching. trainwell direct is $149 a month billed in three-month chunks, a $447 charge, while the add-on is $99.99 billed monthly.6 You get the same kind of trainer, on a shorter commitment, inside an app you already open. If your riding is consistent and what you want is a plan and a person to answer to, that's a good buy, and the first two weeks are free.
trainwell's CEO has said its best and largest group is women between 35 and 50 getting into strength training, often for the first time, and that "the need in the market is for people just doing the basics of strength training, being accountable to it, using it for longevity means."7 That describes a lot of Peloton members, and the add-on is built for exactly that person.
Where it falls short
It's a beta with a gate. iOS only, US only, waitlist, and eligibility checked at onboarding. Peloton's page says All-Access and App+ members including household profiles; at least one third-party write-up has described narrower eligibility, so go by Peloton's page and expect it to move.1
The strength work is where you're on your own. If you're adding strength because you've read that it's the piece Peloton doesn't cover, you'll be doing it with an app guiding you and a trainer reviewing afterwards. That's fine for people with good technique. For a first-timer, it's the place where having a coach watch would help most.
Cancelling is by email, and it's monthly. Monthly is a plus after trainwell's quarterly plan. Email is a small friction, and the terms behind it are trainwell's, which say no refund for a term already paid.8
If you want the live part with your Peloton
Keep the bike. Zone 2 on a Peloton works fine, and nobody needs a coach watching them ride. What we add is the other half: live coached strength sessions, a real coach on video for every set, 45 to 60 minutes, with each coach capped at 12 members. Your coach programs the strength around the rides you already do. It's $49 your first month, then $299/mo locked for life as one of 25 founding members, unlimited sessions, with a 30-day money-back guarantee, and we've written up how it works for Peloton members. Our Peloton Personal Trainer comparison has the side-by-side.
And if $99.99 for a plan and a person who checks in is what you need, join the waitlist. Just don't expect someone on the call while you lift, because Peloton's page says there won't be.
Common questions
Is Peloton Personal Trainer live? Not the workouts. Peloton's own FAQ says workouts are completed asynchronously on your schedule, and that live video calls are used for onboarding and occasional check-ins, not for live workout sessions. You follow a weekly plan your trainer builds from Peloton classes and strength workouts, and you message your trainer between them.
How much does Peloton Personal Trainer cost? $99.99 a month, billed by trainwell, on top of your Peloton All-Access or App+ membership. A 14-day free trial starts after your onboarding call, and you're charged 14 days after that call and monthly on the same date from then on. You cancel by emailing support@trainwell.net, and cancelling doesn't affect your Peloton membership.
Who can get Peloton Personal Trainer? Invited Peloton All-Access and App+ members in the United States on a supported iOS device, including household profiles on an All-Access membership. It's a limited-access beta with a waitlist, offered first come, first served, and eligibility is checked at onboarding. Third-party write-ups have described narrower eligibility, so go by Peloton's page.
Can I use Bespoke Fit alongside Peloton? Yes, and plenty of people do. Keep Peloton for the bike, the classes and your zone 2 days, and use Bespoke Fit for live coached strength sessions where a real coach watches every rep on video. Your coach programs the strength work around the riding you already do.
